vmware fusion

Someone has installed Windows Vista on my Mac using vmware fusion and has
allocated 8gigs but WV only recognize one gig. I was told that I need to
reinstall it with the 64b disk. Is this right or is there any other for
WVista to recognize the 8Gigs of memory.
thanks, my first experience with Window?
