Vista Service Pack 1

Is Service Pack 1 officially available and will it down load automatically?
I can see all kinds of problems being reported by many downloader's that it
makes me wonder if it is practical to download?

Re: Vista Service Pack 1

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows
Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343
It depends on your system drivers. I run it just fine.
It will become available for 'automatic' download on about April 18.

Re: Vista Service Pack 1

April 18th is the date SP1 will be generally available
for automatic installation via Windows Update.
99.9% of Vista users that already installed SP1
have had no problems with the installation.

And 100% of the time Carey gives a percentage, you can be certain Carey
is making it up.

And how do you get these stats? Where are they posted? Or did you just pull
the figure out of your ass, like most of the stuff you post here? SP1 has
been so problematic that Microsoft has been forced to actually give free
support for the failing installs of SP1. They certainly wouldn't have done
this if just .1% of Vista users were experiencing problems with it,
considering it isn't even April 18th yet. Or do they expect this percentage
to really escalate when it becomes "generally available"?

Figures don't lie, but liars sure can figure.

Cheers.

Jim,

I have installed SP1 through Windows Update on two systems - one Home Premium and
one Ultimate - without any problems.

The main improvement I see is in large file copy.

Based on my experience, I'd recommend the update.

Kind regards,
Gary

Yes, but see Mark's response for reasons why you might not have it
yet.

Two points:

1. From my personal experience, I have seen no problems with it.

2. Whenever *anything* new comes out, you see reports of problems with
it. Contrast the number of reports of problems you've seen with the
number of people who have installed it. Problems have been very few.

I recommend installing it, but it's always prudent to be sure your
backed up when you take a big step. No matter how unlikely, something
can always go wrong.

Ugh - can't reply to the original post by Adam because that post was culled
due to the abusive language. =P

Hey Adam, what's the fault bucket data for your COM surrogate crash
according to the Problem Reports and Solutions Center? That shouldn't be
too hard to puzzle out.
