System Restore problem

Hello.

I cannot get the System Restore to work! Whenever I try the computer seems
to be doing its thing, but after re-star a message appears saying that it
was not able to carry out the System Restore due to an unknown problem.
That's it! I run Vista Ultimate on a new computer as administrator. I have
turned off the Windows Defender.

Can anybody help?

Thanks

RE: System Restore problem

This happened to me also with Vista Ultimate SP1. I was able to do the
restore by first rebooting into safe mode. I believe the problem was caused
by my antivirus "self-defense" mode. I updated Avast antivirus to the latest
version (4.8) and that appeared to fix the problem. I noticed that in Avast
settings, troubleshooting, that there is now a check box to disable
self-defense. I suspect that other antivirus programs have similar settings.
