    Vista licence

Hi, I got a message two days ago saying that my licence was due to expire on Vista Ultimate.
Now I cant access my control panel or print.
What do I need to do?, can I buy an upgrade Home Premium / Ultimate?
Do I need to buy a full OEM version?
Can I just buy a key?, if so how can I insert it now that the c/panel dont work?
    thanks
    Amo

    Welcome to the Vista Forums

When you buy your authentic copy of Vista, you should be able to insert the media and it will begin the process from there. Now, whether or not your system is eligible for an upgrade or a new full license depends on your system. Here's how to activate Vista over the phone (and other ways): Activate Vista by Phone

Licenses don't expire if you bought a real copy of Windows Vista and
    activated it.
If you are running a beta/pre-release version then you need to go buy a full
new versions and install it and activate it.

If you have just not activated your copy then just do that - activate it.
Even in reduced functionality mode, due to you letting the grace period for
activation expire you can still activate it. Just look at the properties of
Computer, or the activation icon may be in the system tray etc.

If you are actually running pirated/stolen software - by virtue of you just
installing Windows Vista without even having a license, then you need to go
out and buy a full copy of the version of the software you want to continue
to run - sound like Windows Ultimate. Since you are running a pirated copy
you need to buy a full version as obviously you are not entitled to upgrade
from a stolen copy. You can buy either OEM or retail. Then just reinstall.
You may be able to do an "upgrade install" thus keeping all your apps and
settings - but backup your system first, just in case.

PC came with Ultimate, (2nd hand).
If I buy OEM premium, will it just downgrade or do I have to reinstall?

Cant access properties and no icon on sys tray.

If you buy a Vista Home Premium OEM - you will have to clean install, then
    reinstall your applications.
    Backup your data first.
Are all of you applications original and properly licensed too? As any that
just happened to come preinstalled on the pirated OS may also be pirate and
    not licensed.

How does Mike know it is a pirated OS?

He doesn't. And just because the OS needs to be reactivated doesn't mean
that it is pirated. Driver updates, SP1, a corrupted PA file can all
    cause reactivation.

Try to activate by phone, and see how that goes, before shelling out
bucks you don't necessarily need to.

    Please follow this troubleshooting procedure:

    1. Download and run the MGA Diagnostic Tool: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    2. After running the MGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy".

    3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the "WGA Validation Problems" forum
and paste the results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in a detailed post.
    http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/...aspx?SiteID=25

    4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and recommend an appropriate solution.

You need to uninstall the beta version of SP1, then install
the final, released version of SP1. Please see the following:

Hi I have tried to uninstall but I cant launch control panel anymore.

    Also it says:
If SP1 came preinstalled with your edition of Windows Vista, however, it cannot be uninstalled.

    What do I do?
