weird problem

People,

A strange thing happens.

When I open the hotmail.com page, I see in the live id field someoneelse's
account adress.

Instead I am supposed to see my own account adress, as a cookie should keep
that.

Now I dont know what is going on...

I use vista ultimate with AVG.
I leave my laptop open during the midnight for emule.
I use wireless internet conenction and it is unsecured.
My vista ultimate has the sp1 and latest updates, with firewall on...

In these conditions can someone reach and use the hotmail from my computer?
What is going on?

If I cannot get a sensible answer, I will start to doubt if someone breaks
in my home during the day and use my laptop,
when I am at work...

Would you know what is going on?

Re: weird problem

if the wireless is unsecured, in what way I can have someonelse's account
name on my comp?
what may really be happening here?

I have a firewall and so...

Do you really know that it is possible that can happen or are you just
guessing?
Are you knowledgable enough or just guessing?

Please dont guess but tell me how that is possible.
Otherwise I am really going insane...
I dont have any room to accept guess answers to my question.

Re: weird problem

he's right. put a WEP key in and see if it does that again. and if that's
only happened once, leave it alone for one or two more days and see if that
happens again. if it doesn't you're fine. i still recommend a WEP or WPA key
though.

Re: weird problem

How can I put a WEP or WPA key?
What do these mean?
I use linksys.

Can I do this in vista easily?
Or do I need my wireless routers cd?

Use WPA, or preferably WPA2. Breaking an old fashioned WEP key is done in a
matter of minutes, even amateurs can do it with downloaded software.

Sounds like this is way beyond your pay grade. Take your computer to
someone who knows what they are doing

"Wired Equivalent Privacy" and "Wi-Fi Protected Access". They are both
encryption algorithms, used to secure wireless networks. WEP is deprecated,
the most recent standard is WPA2.

Many routers come with software to do this, but most are directly accessed
at their IP-address, such as 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.100 (you just type
this address into the url field in your browser, and hit enter to access the
device).

Read the router manual for specific how-to. Like I wrote in the other post,
use WPA encryption, or WPA2. Also, remember to put a password on the router
(you do not want others to be able to log onto it and change the settings)
and enable it's firewall.

Run thorough malware checks if you suspect your computer has been
compromised. I suggest you post a question about this in the
microsoft.public.windows.vista.security newsgroup.
