Windows Vista Home Premium mouse pointer out of alignment

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 530 running under Vista Home Premium. It
was supplied without a monitor. I have tried it with two monitors, a small
LG flat screen and a 20.5" widescreen Samsung. In both cases the mouse
pointer is about 2 mm (1/8th inch) out of true so that when for example
selecting files from a list in Windows Explorer it is easy to select the one
below that intended. How do I synchronies the mouse pointer with the
hotspots? An obvious answer is to contact Dell, but, if it comes to that, I
would like to have some understanding of the underlying problem before I
talk with them. And if there is some simple registry tweak in Vista, then
hopefully I can fix it with kind guidance from this newsgroup.

Video card: 256MB ATI RadeonT HD 2600 XT graphics card

Re: Windows Vista Home Premium mouse pointer out of alignment

Download and install the latest mouse drivers from Dell. If that doesn't
solve the problem it's time to contact them.

Re: Windows Vista Home Premium mouse pointer out of alignment

Every now and then I saw this when I worked for Dell. The underlying issue is not a mouse driver, should your mouse have one, its caused by the Video Card.

1) You can try visiting Support.Dell.Com and visit their "Drivers & Downloads" Section.
2) You can go straight to your manufactures website of your video card, and download the latest driver.

I'd recommend the second, but this should resolve your issue in either case.

Re: Windows Vista Home Premium mouse pointer out of alignment

I had the same problem. Installing the ATI update which was listed under
Microsoft Updates cured the problem.

Re: Windows Vista Home Premium mouse pointer out of alignment

Thanks. I uninstalled the mouse a couple of times, wondering whether I would
still be in control after restarting. All was well and the problem has
vanished. Doug.

Doug, Looks like we have the identical PC setup and problem. Can you
please tell me where I can find the "ATI Update" you installed to
solve the problem.

Thanks,
Gary

Re: Windows Vista Home Premium mouse pointer out of alignment

Had same problem on my Dell. The update for my ATI video card appeared
with Windows updates.
