| | links button my friend's email is thru gmail. she has a links button (looks like chain links) that she uses to provide links to websites *without* showing the website address. it simply highlights a word she has typed and the mail recipient clicks on that word to go to the website. i think several words (a phrase) can be highlighted as well as just one word. so she might say, 'click here for more info' and the word *here* will be highlighted and contains the link. does windows vista mail have this feature? i cannot find it. thanks! |

| | Re: links button You can use your favorite word processor to insert a hyperlink, Name it anything you like and copy and paste the link into an email message. ------- *Report back, please* "michelle" <michelle@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:E7E92818-F5FA-4231-8777-9E3E1F9C5D7A@xxxxxx Quote: > my friend's email is thru gmail. she has a links button (looks like chain > links) that she uses to provide links to websites *without* showing the > website address. it simply highlights a word she has typed and the mail > recipient clicks on that word to go to the website. i think several words > (a > phrase) can be highlighted as well as just one word. so she might say, > 'click here for more info' and the word *here* will be highlighted and > contains the link. does windows vista mail have this feature? i cannot > find > it. > > thanks! |

Hyperlink from the Insert menu. This will only work if the email is HTML formatted, you can check/choose this option from the Format menu. Charlie42 |

If you want to shorten hyperlinks in your postings, consider using a web service like TinyURL. I do not think it is necessary though, Usenet people are fairly blasé about long urls. Charlie42 |

| | Re: links button forgive me, but i'm tech-challenged and do not understand your reply. did i do a faux pas on *this* board? i don't know what usenet is, or the difference between posting in html and text format. basically, what i want to do it the same thing my friend does from her gmail account, which automatically comes with a links button. she frequently uses highlighted one word links for longer addresses in one of the groups we're both in. i need baby steps, my friend. thanks for the hand-holding! Although you are reading/posting this on the Microsoft Communities web interface, what actually lies under is a newsgroup called microsoft.public.windows.vista.general - not a web forum or board. A newsreader is a better way of accessing the Usenet than clunky interfaces like Microsoft's or Google Groups. Here is how to use Windows Mail for your newsreader: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...916d41033.mspx HTML is the markup language in which web pages are written, so that browsers can understand how to display them on a screen. Email clients can also use this language to format contents, but in newsgroups plain text is the customary way of doing business. Like I mentioned in my previous post, there are other means of shortening long url's, but it really is not necessary to do it. Charlie42 |
