| | Service Pack 1 question I have two computers running Vista Business. I have them both set up to tell me about updates but not to automatically install them. So, why is one computer telling me that Service Pack 1 is available but the other is not? In fact, on the one that not telling me SP1 is available, I told it to check for updates and it still did not tell me about SP1 (it said that everything is all up to date). Is there some legitimate reason for this or is this just normal operating procedure? And, BTW, I'm very hesitant to install SP1 of either computer. |

| | Re: Service Pack 1 question I also have 2 Vista (Home Premium) machines, identical hardware. I installed SP1 on both about 3 weeks apart. The results are different on both. I don't get it. I got tied up on some other stuff and didn't do anything further with this matter until a little while ago. Both computers have been running in the meantime. I happened to look at the one that had NOT prompted me about SP1 and, lo and behold, there it was: telling me that I should install SP1 !! Now, don't mis-understand me - I'm not complaining about what you guys posted. I read the MS document you linked and it says what you quoted above. But, geeze, I would think that Microsoft should have a little better handle on how this all works. FWIW, I let it install the service pack. It went without incedent and the computer seems to still be running ok - although I haven't done all that much with it yet. |
