Whatever became of HyperTerminal?

What is one supposed to do about running a terminal program in Vista since
it doesn't seem to be in Home Premium anywhere? No HyperTerminal that I can
find?

Any suggestions? I have to connect to some old systems and serial devices
occasionally.

TIA

Re: Whatever became of HyperTerminal?

Here's an updated version of the free one included in earlier Windows...
it's free for personal use.

I thought that Vista dropped support for serial connections. Without the
Routing and Remote Access service, what happens?

Re: Whatever became of HyperTerminal?

A misunderstanding I think. Otherwise why would they bother to include a
Phone and Modem Options applet in Vista's Control Panel?

Aside from that HyperTerminal can make TCP/IP and modem connections as well
as direct COM port connections.

Full PCI, Winmodems and especially soft-modems are still pretty popular.
The market for full discrete serial modems seems to have disappeared though.

Of course, but I suspect that COM connections will not work. I'll have a go
with my router, TV set-top box or even my multimeter to check it out some
time.
