when I installed SP1 :-). I have an Acer, not a Sony, but I think the
problem is with a (still running) Anti-virus or antispy program,
blocking the progress (and completion) of SP1 .
I finally tired of waiting and pressed the 'off' button. It is risky,
but I felt I had no choice.
On reboot, choose the 'safe mode' boot-up.
If things are OK, the install process will pick up where left it left
off, and complete to 100%. However, in my case, after 'successful
install' the program decided to 'revert changes' and go to square one.
(That is good news)
When you try to re-install SP1 again, make sure all ant-virus,
ant-spyware and other busy-body programs (including sleep mode) are
turned off.
It worked for me, I have had SP1 since. I hope it works out OK for you too.
