Can't read Dvds burned under XP.

I recently installed Vista for the first time and I can't seem to open
a photo Dvd or Cd that was burned under Win XP Pro. Is this a common
problem and is there a workaround?
Thanks for any info.
Gary

Hi, and Welcome to the Vista Forums MEPFEFFER

Is it that you cannot access the disks at all or is it just the content?

I am having the exact same problem and have found no help so far. I also get the message to install Veritas UDF reader and when I attempt to install it gives me an error message. Has anyone found a solution ?

I can not see any files on the E: DVD drive. I have saved info on these as backup files for word/excell and photo files. they were saved on old PC with XP and HP photo software.

Hi MEPFEFFER

Have you tried right click on the drive in explorer and select "explore" this will sometimes work on disks burnt with xp's UDF format

Probably its the type of software that was used to burn the data in Windows
XP. Have you tried installing that same program on Vista and try reading the
DVD again?

NO GO, all I get is Auto Run icon and it does not show any files on the disc.
It says current files on the disc (2) and all it shows is auto run and auto run set up information 48 bits. It seems to me that it is unable to read the disc. for any documents or file folders. This is the same whether I put in a disc with Word and Excel documents or picture files saved on the old machine.
