| | taskbar Notification area Every time I log into my computer, one of three things is missing: 1. The volume control/mixer icon 2. The network status icon 3. both the above icons. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate x64, on a Intel Q6600 GO processor and an ASUS P5K mobo. RAM is 4G, HDD is not at a premium as I have ample storage. When I go to the settings, the missing icon's check box is greyed out and un-checked - I cannot re-check it to re-activate it during the current session. At this moment, both icons are displayed. The last two log-ins the volume icon was missing, and the network icon was missing before that. What is going on? This should not be happening. I use the sound regularly with various software, and it is annoying when I cannot adjust this. If the network is not connecting, I cannot reset the adapter unless the icon is displayed. All these scenarios should not exist nor should they be happening. What can I do to remedy this? Suggestions most welcome. Thank you, in advance. |

| | Re: taskbar Notification area It's a driver compatibility problem. The only poor workaround I can offer, to reactivate your icons without restarting, is to use device manager to 'uninstall' the device (be sure you do not 'delete driver' with that checkbox for that). When it refinds the driver for you (may have to 'scan for hardware changes in the 'action' menu) my system always again shows the icons. The real answer, of course, is a better driver. -- Was this helpful? Then click the Ratings button. Voting helps the web interface. http://www.microsoft.com/wn3/locales...eAPostAsAnswer Mark L.
