| | Vista OS Experience I have finnaly bit the bullet and installed Vista Ultimate. I have only 1 issue and that is that i can't get IE protection to work, However, I don't see this as a big issue since I do have a Router, Firewall, Antivrus, ect.... Speed. I have not noticed any time of slowdown, In fact my laptop seems to have sped up a bit. I love the Dictation (Speech recognition). Now don't think I love microsoft, because I hate the fact that they charge so much for their software. They rush on their OS etc... If Microsoft would take their time to develop an operating system from scratch and instead of paying for upgrades (New Versions), they charge a yearly subscription fee of say ($50.00) and when new software was released you could get it if your subscription was paid in full, i believe Microsoft would make alot more money and not have to worry so much about Piracy. | | Re: Vista OS Experience Interesting feedback. I would note that if you throw out the existing Win32 codebase and develop Win32++ from scratch, you would do fascinating and probably bad things with application compatibility. =\ -- Speaking for myself only. Keith There have been several articles about this issue and to the best of my knowledge Microsoft is seriously considering offering this in the future. | | Re: Vista OS Experience The willingness demonstrated by users like you to accept a defective product is the reason Bill Gates and his merry men do things the way they do. If you bought a new car and GM or Ford said "We know the brakes don't work and neither does reverse, but hang in there and we'll eventually issue fixes for those problems", how long would you stand for it? Why should M$ be held to a lower standard by consumers than any other provider of any other product? | | Re: Vista OS Experience Operating systems are extremely complex. It amazes me that they work as well as they do. You cannot compare complex lines of code to simple mechanical machines. Operating systems must interact with thousands of different software applications. Mechanical machines need to interact only with their own internal components. The Windows operating systems are no more defective than those based upon Unix/Linux code. They all have problems due to their complexity. They are, and will continue to be, a work in progress. If you think you can do better I suggest you develop and market your own OS so that we don't have to deal with such problems. In the meantime, please provide us with a list of the defects you allude to. I'm sure someone in this newsgroup can assist you in overcoming your problems. C.B. I think I'm an XPert if that program still exists(?), but other than that I'm just a random developer (programmer) at Microsoft who attempts to and usually manages to do a lot of good through using public interaction to delve into issues.
