Windows Vista shadows

I have had my computer for a little over a year now and I run Windows
Vista Ultimate edition. All of a sudden a couple days ago I noticed
that everything now has an annoying shadow on it. Desktop icons, tool
bar, web browser text, microsoft word text, every little bit of text
and icons. I have tried going to control panel, under the visual
effects tab and unchecking transparent glass, shadows under menu,
shadows under mouse pointer, and use drop shadows for desktop icons. I
have also tried changing my desktop theme and wallpaper. So far
nothing has worked. A solution to this problem would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Windows Vista shadows

Have you tried a different monitor to rule out a possible monitor failure?
How about a different screen resolution?

Re: Windows Vista shadows

I don't have a different monitor to try, but I tryed changing the
screen resolution and it didn't do anything. Could it have anything to
do with the video card? I have a nVIDIA GeForce 7300LE w/ 256 MB.

Re: Windows Vista shadows

It could, but unless you can do some troubleshooting to narrow down the
potential problem list, there's no way to tell.

Re: Windows Vista shadows

I think that in this case, it is hardware fault. Are you using CRT monitor,
or LCD with analog connection (via VGA connector)? This is a sign of either
bad cable, bad connection, or graphic card's output circuits.
Try to unplug the monitor cable, plug it back well, and calibrate the
monitor from its own menu.
