| | Logon/Startup sound I have Vista Pre RC1 - 5536 When I reboot I get the startup/logon sound, even though I have no sounds assigned in the Sound area of the control panel. I even went as far as deleting all the .wav files I could find by doing a *.*wav search. Anybody know where the file for that is event is located. TIA |

| | Re: Logon/Startup sound This is by design in the new build. Startup Sound is locked / hardcoded and cannot be turned off. It's going to be a marketing thing, to know a Vista-PC when it starts. Surely the XP-sounds will be exchanged with Vista ones. | | Re: Logon/Startup sound I'm already sick of hearing that sound each time Vista starts. Surely, even Microsoft wouldn't be that cruel to us poor users! | | Re: Logon/Startup sound If you like the XP startup sound more, you can change it to that. Just copy the sound file from a computer with windows XP (Windows -> Media -> Windows Startup.wav) Then change the sound to that one. | | Re: Logon/Startup sound If its not a joke, let me just say I totally agree with those who are opposed to this kind of pollution, what's next? a continuous drip of bytes from your speakers? No thank you! Stephen PS On a more positive side, the fact that only two out of four speakers actually work suddenly turns out to have a positive side. |-) -- PSA Software Service "Jon Davis" wrote: > Hey guys, is this a joke? TIA The latest build, 5728, provides a check box to not play the startup sound. MS listened to the outcry. -- Rock [ MVP User/Shell] |
