Logon/Startup sound

I have Vista Pre RC1 - 5536

When I reboot I get the startup/logon sound, even though I have no sounds
assigned in the Sound area of the control panel. I even went as far as
deleting all the .wav files I could find by doing a *.*wav search. Anybody
know where the file for that is event is located. TIA

Re: Logon/Startup sound

This is by design in the new build.

Startup Sound is locked / hardcoded and cannot be turned off. It's going to
be a marketing thing, to know a Vista-PC when it starts. Surely the
XP-sounds will be exchanged with Vista ones.

Regards
Sascha

Re: Logon/Startup sound

Thank You - I shall waste no more effort trying to delete it.
I am not happy with M/S for doing this.

Re: Logon/Startup sound

I'm already sick of hearing that sound each time Vista starts. Surely, even
Microsoft wouldn't be that cruel to us poor users!

Maybe it could be used as the basis for an insanity plea - "The Vista start
sound made me do it!"

Re: Logon/Startup sound

Hey guys, is this a joke? I know that there's a lot of silly stuff posted in
this group but this one sounds almost too ridiculous to be laughed at.

Re: Logon/Startup sound

If you like the XP startup sound more, you can change it to that. Just copy
the sound file from a computer with windows XP (Windows -> Media -> Windows
Startup.wav) Then change the sound to that one.

Re: Logon/Startup sound

If its not a joke, let me just say I totally agree with those who are opposed
to this kind of pollution, what's next? a continuous drip of bytes from your
speakers?

No thank you!

Stephen

PS On a more positive side, the fact that only two out of four speakers
actually work suddenly turns out to have a positive side. |-)

The latest build, 5728, provides a check box to not play the startup sound.
MS listened to the outcry.
