Vista - Vista Youtube Videos Slow/Pause, File Copys Slow...etc...

I recently bought a Dell XPS One with Vista Home Premium and I'm
having some major crippling issues with Vista performance.

When I first got the machine everything seemed fine, but as I started
using it more, I'm noticing YouTube videos pause and buffer
continuously rendering the videos useless. I notice file copies take
an extrodinary amount of time. And another real annoying issue is that
the mouse halts every few minutes (as if the system is busy) then
releases itself after a few seconds.....I cant explain how annoying
this one is.

I cant say for sure, but all of this may have become more pronounced
*after* installing all of the security updates that Windows Updater
presented to me and I accepted. I checked start/run/winver recently
and it does not show SP1, so I dont know that I in fact have the
latest complete SP - I have to check if I have this, but I assume that
will just be an accumulation of the most recent updates applied
individually anyhow.

I'm using a WRT150N N draft router with wireless N build into the
desktop as well so I dont think it's internet connectivity slowness.

Does anyone know if SP1 addresses these issues descibed?

I recently read something about the latest version of flash and Vista
as being an issue. Does anyone know how to resolve any of these issues
explained?

Uninstall any antivirus software that you or Dell installed.
Disable Windows Defender.
Test drive your machine for an hour or two to see if there is any improvement.
From here on it depends on what you experience.

If there is improvement enable Windows Defender and try again.

If there is no improvement then reinstall your software .

From here you need to find out what programs are running in the background etc.
