IDT audio through MS update: no audio!

Hi all
My computer: Dell dimension 9200, Vista HP 32bit
Chipset: Intel P965
Audio: Sigmatel

Hardware ID for the audio device:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DB&REV_1002
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DB

Problem: I wasn't able to download the SP1 update because of audio drivers'
incompatibility; yesterday MS update proposed me the update to IDT-audio
drivers version 6.10.5609, downloaded them.

Result: no audio, device Manager showing Code 10 error.

I tried twice again until I decided to completely remove the Sigmatel audio
drivers and restart with default Microsoft drivers version 6.0.6000.16386.

Now, the audio turned on again but, at the same time, WU notifies that the
SP1 is avaliable with update chronology showing the IDT-audio update that
didn't succeed.
What should I do now? Try to install SP1?

Thx for any suggestion

I installed same update, what a mistake. Not only did my audio not work,
but I could not start control panel from the start menu. Using windows
explorer I was able to get to windows updates, but I could not get to the
uninstall page. I used system restore to correct the problem.

This should teach ya'll to never trust driver updates from MS.

Either they are dumbed-down to minimalistic functions, or they just
bugger up your install. It ain't worth the risk.
