| | Problem opening zip files For a short time I had installed pkzip. It is now uninstalled, but apparantly has left Windows Explorer as the program used to open zip files. When I click on a zip file, Windows explorer opens, closes, opens, closes ad infinitum. Only recourse is to force a reboot. I would like to change the default opens with ... to something that works. I see that on my XP computer the recommended program for opening zip files is called "Compressed (zip) Folders". I can't find such a program on Vista. Also, the only recommended program showing up on Vista "Open With" is Windows Explorer, which I know is a disaster. I can right-click and select Extract All to work around this problem, but would like to get the Open function working correctly. Help appreciated. |

You might try this tutorial to restore the default built-in ZIP handler in Vista to see if it will help you. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/65...ile-vista.html A great free ZIP program to use is 7-Zip. You might give it a try to see what you think. 7-Zip Shawn |

My list to choose from is IE, WinRAR and Winzip with WinRAR being the default used to open a zip file. Without either one of the zip programs there, it was going to IE on my machine and Vista went into the shake, rattle and roll too. |
