problem with donwloading zip files

Hi,
When I try to dowload a zip file from the web with my VISTA computer, I get
an empty file (0 KB) ... If I do the same with my WinXP computer, I get the
file correctly... I tried this
- with Internet Explorer and FireFox with the same results
- after having unloaded ZoneAlarm
but to no avail...
What is blocking VISTA when trying ot download a zip file ?

Re: problem with donwloading zip files

I would try re-registering the zip activeX component.
Rightclick the Command Prompt icon on the start menu, and click 'run as
administrator'
Run the command:
regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

Re: problem with donwloading zip files

Hi,
I eventually came across the same problem from a WinXP machine this time...
I tried what you suggested with this WinXP machine but it did not help. I'll
try tonight with my VISTA machine. However, I now wonder if this is not due
to firewall configuration. Both machines run ZoneAlarm, but with different
versions since ZA for XP is difefrent from that for VISTA. However, the
first XP machine I used did notr have this problem (which is why I tought is
was due to VISTA) and it runs also ZoneAlarm. I'll stry to see with other
machines ...

What is even more puzzling is that the problem is not for all zip files,
since I 'am able to dwonload other ones from other web sites. I'll further
explore this...

But, in tne meantime, do you have another clue or suggestions ?

Re: problem with donwloading zip files

I would suspect %TEMP% folder corruption. Click Start, and type : %TEMP% and
hit [ENTER]
Clear the folder and restart.

Re: problem with donwloading zip files

Thank you for your sggestion.
Actually, I found out that the problem was with the web site it-self. Some
programming error made that when requesting a spcific zip file, the server
failed to make the file and sent only a empty file.
Anyway, thanks for your help.
Paul.
