| | 5308 BCEDIT question Bootup shows Legacy and Microsoft Windows. I'd like to change the second line text to "VISTA" how to do so ? ( It's not a big deal - it's just an exercise to see how to do it.) I checked boot.ini on C and I see a message to run BCEDIT.exe I did a search - on C and Vista drives and can't find it ! Any ideas ? Bobb |

| | Re: 5308 BCEDIT question- VistaBootPRO Andre, A question about this app please .... I have 2 boot options: Legacy ... ( XP Pro), and Microsoft Windows ( Vista) I saved VistaBootPro - ran it in Vista and it shows my 2 boot options. I'm not on that PC right now, so from memory: I selected "the tab to rename the entries" and I selected Legacy from the drop-down and chose rename (in the lower part) - to " XP Pro" and the second I renamed to "Vista". I then rebooted and I saw ... the same thing as before. I was expecting to see: XP Pro Vista as my boot menu options. Did I do something wrong ? do you know - will it do what I want ? ( To change the text that's displayed during boot). ( Prior to rebooting I also tried Backup/restore tab , then SAVE and browse - does nothing. so I entered C:\foldername => save = nothing happened. Vista issue ? ) Bobb "Andre Da Costa [Extended64]" <andred25@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:u9GmpuOgGHA.1264@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Use VistaBootPRO: > http://www.vistabootpro.org/ > -- > -- > Andre > Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com > Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com > Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre > http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta > > "- Bobb -" <bobb@netscape.net> wrote in message > news:u5cqtqOgGHA.4976@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> Bootup shows >> Legacy and >> Microsoft Windows. >> >> I'd like to change the second line text to "VISTA" how to do so ? >> ( It's not a big deal - it's just an exercise to see how to do it.) >> I checked boot.ini on C and I see a message to run BCEDIT.exe >> I did a search - on C and Vista drives and can't find it ! | | Re: 5308 BCEDIT question- VistaBootPRO Hello Bobb, You seem to be running into UAC (permissions) limitations. Personally, I would *NOT* recommend VistaBootPro from within Vista. If you have a dual-boot, then VistaBootPro should be used within the Windows XP environment -- this is recommended as the *purpose* of the app. - naseru "- Bobb -" <bobb@netscape.net> wrote in message news:Od$NiN4gGHA.4368@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Andre, > > A question about this app please .... > I have 2 boot options: > Legacy ... | | Re: 5308 BCEDIT question- VistaBootPRO Thanks for the info. That's what I want ! I do have a question before I do it though ... Do I do this typing from XP or from Vista ? Bobb While I'm at it, could you tell me : ( I went online and couldn't find this) big picture - is BCE related to the boot loader on my XP drive ? Or is it its own little app that runs prior to XP boot - so the mbr on the XP drive wasn't changed at all ? the reason I ask: Can I add now SBS to this system ( on it's own drive) ? Normally I'd install OS'es in order of release, but if BCD is for Vista only, does my XP boot care now ? What I've got currently is 1 SATA drive with 3 partitions c= XP d= Library e = previous XP install and 1 IDE drive f= fat32 Win2000 ( haven't used it in this PC) G= Vista NTFS H= NTFS (empty) I have SBS beta in another PC on its own NTFS drive , but it's too slow. Can I : 1. pick up and move SBS here and have it boot ? by messing with BCE ? 2. if not can I install SBS here on that same drive without blowing up the Vista, XP boot on my XP drive ? Thanks very much.
