Changing Background of Windows Sidebar

Does anyone know how I can change the background window of the windows
sidebar? Changing the Desktop Background doesn't seem to have any effect.
I'd like to change the color to Black but right now it is a grey color and
it's difficult to see any gadgets I send to it.

Much appreciated if you can help me.

Thanks
