| | i have multiple connections!dont know why! i have been having some problems with my net connection. it drops out every now and again (like dial up does). cant access net but still on local network. but thats the second problem! the mian thing that has me confussed is i suddenly have "multiple networks". few times when net drops out the network and sharing basic map shows 2 networks. local network and unidentified network. i only have 1 computer on network (ie plugged into router) and it is using an ethernet connection...router NOT wireless only usb or ether.. net wont connect if the extra network connected. where did the second network come from?why?should i be worried???? -- c3029376 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ c3029376's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=48907 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=965785 http://forums.techarena.in |

This is not permanent, it can be re enabled by the same method later. When you are looking at the network card properties check the box to show the interface in the system tray, that helps identify what is being used and what is not connected. Sorry if this is not much help but I have seen Vista (And Linux) get upset when an interface is enabled but not connected. XP didn't seem to care. |

| | Re: i have multiple connections!dont know why! Hi, One other note. Sometimes when you have "show the interface in the system tray" even after un-checking it, it will still show up. -- All the best, SG Is your computer system ready for Vista? https://winqual.microsoft.com/hcl/ Want to keep up with the latest news from MS? http://news.google.com/nwshp?tab=wn&ned=us&topic=t Just type in Microsoft "Charlie Tame" <charlie@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uCGSgK1sIHA.552@xxxxxx Quote: > c3029376 wrote: Quote: >> i have been having some problems with my net connection. it drops out >> every now and again (like dial up does). cant access net but still on >> local network. but thats the second problem! >> >> the mian thing that has me confussed is i suddenly have "multiple >> networks". few times when net drops out the network and sharing basic >> map shows 2 networks. local network and unidentified network. >> >> i only have 1 computer on network (ie plugged into router) and it is >> using an ethernet connection...router NOT wireless only usb or ether.. >> net wont connect if the extra network connected. >> >> where did the second network come from?why?should i be worried???? >> >> > > Most motherboards come with both Ethernet and Firewire so they will show > up as separate network connections, next time you visit the properties > page you should see a right click option to "Disable" the one you do not > use. > > This is not permanent, it can be re enabled by the same method later. > > When you are looking at the network card properties check the box to show > the interface in the system tray, that helps identify what is being used > and what is not connected. > > Sorry if this is not much help but I have seen Vista (And Linux) get upset > when an interface is enabled but not connected.
