MS Newsgroups Newsgator in Outlook

How do I set up Newsgator to get my Microsoft newsgroup stuff in Outlook
2007? I already have NewsGator plugin installed. It asks me for a server,
username, and password. Would my username be my email address? What format
do I use for the NNTP server? I tried
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general, but it said it could not connect to
the news server.

Re: MS Newsgroups Newsgator in Outlook

Hi,

Username is whatever name you want to appear, do not provide a valid,
unmunged email address unless you like lots of spam.

Server is msnews.microsoft.com, no password is required.

microsoft.public.windows.vista.general is the group name, one of many.

Re: MS Newsgroups Newsgator in Outlook

Ok, thanks, I got as far as synchronizing the news feed. Then it initially
said "NewsGator can't synchronize the feeds at the time." After I tried
again it just hangs while saying "Synchronizing..." Also, can I use
NewsGator in Outlook 2007 to post newsgroup stuff, or just receive it?

Re: MS Newsgroups Newsgator in Outlook

Ok, it now gets the posts. But, when I click "reply" it tries to send to the
poster's email address, not the group. How do I get it to automatically send
the reply to the group?

Most readers have the option to reply to sender, or reply to group.

Oh. Well, this apparently doesn't. Oh well, I guess I'll try a different

Re: MS Newsgroups Newsgator in Outlook

At http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/olexpr.asp I found a "NewsGator NNTP
Posting Plugin" to post to newsgroups. I installed it, but I still got the
user's email address when trying to post a reply.
