Virtual PC in seperate monitor

With all the proper hardware (adequate memory, dual monitor capable video
card, etc.), is it possible to view virtual disks on a separate monitor?

??? Why not? Perhaps I'm not really understanding what you're asking, but
there's no problem dragging a virtual machine window onto a second monitor
the same way you'd put any other window. The virtual machine software,
whether MS Virtual PC, VMware, or Virtual Box is just another application
after all.

If this is not what you wanted to know, then please post back with a better
explanation of your end goal.

I guess he was trying to imagine a scenario where it was like having two
separate machines, being controlled by one keyboard and mouse and,
essentially, it would be.

Don't forget to get a processor with Virtualising Technology. The low-end
AMD and Intel chips to do not include this, so will run virtual machines a
lot slower then otherwise.

I never would have guessed that. Maybe your Crystal Ball(tm) is a better
model than mine. We won't know unless he comes back and explains himself. I
know the two-monitor setup works perfectly under OS X because that's my
normal working mode - various programs that display on my MacBook's screen
and various programs that display on my 20" monitor, including VM Fusion
running SUSE 10.1 on the big monitor. I can't imagine it would be any
different under Vista.

Re: Virtual PC in seperate monitor

My computer now has Pentium D 3.0 GHz, 1.5GB RAM....a more powerful machine
is to come soon. And Synapse Syndrome is correct...what I am invisioning is a
dual monitor setup with the host viewable on one and the virtual disk
viewable on the other. Is THAT possible, and if so how would I go about
configuring that?

I guess I'm not understanding what you mean and how the above scenario is
any different than what I'm doing here on my MacBook. I'm writing to you
from the KNode newsreader in SUSE Linux 10.1 which is running in a virtual
machine in VM Fusion (the Mac version of VMware) and is displayed on my 20"
external monitor attached to my MacBook. Other programs that are native to
the host OS (OS X) can run on both my MacBook's own screen or on the big
monitor. It isn't any different in Windows.

If I wanted to add a second monitor to my Vista machine, all I would need is
a video card that supported dual monitors. If I wanted to run VMware
Workstation or Virtual PC and create a virtual machine running whatever,
I'd make sure I had a nice fast processor but most importantly, plenty of
RAM. With Vista, I'd want 3GB. Then I'd start my VM and drag the window to
the second monitor.

Re: Virtual PC in seperate monitor

There is no way for me to know what you are doing at home with your Macbook
setup Malke...I guess MY Crystal Ball model REALLY sucks. Anyway, you
answered my question....thank you.

Thought I described it to you (and to Synapse Syndrome) pretty well. No need
for a Crystal Ball(tm) when words are used descriptively. However, it
hardly matters since apparently I answered whatever it was you wanted to
know.

Re: Virtual PC in seperate monitor

This actually works very well on a PC with dual monitors.

I use the UltraMon utility that allows you to switch any application between
monitors with the click of a button

http://www.ultramon.com

It's a cool setup when you can have two separate OSs running.
