| | Scroll bar in pop up windows not working Whenever I open a pop up window (I think that's what you'd call them - a new window opening from the original website) I have no vertical scrollbar. This is extremely annoying since most of the time I need one to see the entire window. Sometimes, I get a scrollbar but it won't move (this is rare). And on occasion, I don't get a horizontal scroll bar either. I tried downloading Firefox and the same thing happens if that gives you any clues. HELP!! |

You could try resizing the pop-up but unfortunately many pop-ups are scripted to not allow resize either. You're just dealing with dumb Web applications on those sites. -solon fox |

(This computer was just purchased 2 months ago and the problem has existed since the begininning). Try www.webkinz.com, www.pokemon.com, and www.pogo.com and see if they work on yours. Thanks,Tasha |

IE 7 uses tabbed browsing, so there is a significant difference. I tried a few links on the Web sites that you cited and found that scroll bars appeared in pop-ups when needed. I assume that you are running Vista Home edition and IE 7. I am guessing that your sister is running XP and IE 6. Since I am running Vista and IE 7 and didn't see anything the matter with those pop-ups, it tends to indicate that the trouble is with some settings on your computer. Go to Tools, Internet Options, General tab and towards the bottom is a section called "Tabs", click the Settings button for tabs, where it says, "When a pop-up is encountered:" select "Let Internet Explorer decide how pop-ups should open." Go to http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp and below the big blue "Free Java Download" button, click the link for "Do I have Java?" Follow the instructions there. If you do not have Java, or do not have the correct version of Java then also follow their instructions for updating/installing Java. Since your computer is new, the Java Runtime Environment plug-ins required for some of those games may not have been loaded. This might help to solve your problem. I hope that you get it working exactly the way you like, but another possible work-around (only if the above two steps don't work) would be to set the pop-ups to always open in a new tab. Some people like it that way, some people don't. If you choose to try that, then at least you won't have the trouble with scroll bars. -solon fox |
