What is Silverlight?

MS Update is offering "Silverlight" as a download option - Has anyone
downloaded and what opinions /comment does anyone have?
Is there any real advantage by downloading, I generally understand it's
function, enlightment is wisdom!!!

Re: What is Silverlight?

I downloaded that, as far as I can see, it doesn't do much at all!

It's Microsoft's competitor for Flash...

The advantage of having it is being able to view a web page that uses
it.

The disadvantage is it's another bit of software that you can install, and
it is allowed to interact with web traffic.

I.e, it's a piece of software waiting for an exploit.

www.kcci.com the Weather radar is now needing it.

Used to be an animated GIF then became Flash, now Silverlight.

They still provide legacy player availability, though, so there is a way
to the well for now w/o silverlight.

Re: What is Silverlight?

From what I can tell it's basically Microsoft's equivalent of Flash.

To install the plug-in takes practically 5 seconds, and it's done (less time
that installing Flash Player, that's for sure).
