| | "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device" Here's a techie one......... Vista Ultimate 64-bit I get the following message: "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device" I click the boxes to take me to the "Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB940199)" which apparently can help fix this (corrupt or deleted Infcache.1) The thing is, I can download the fix but when applying WIndows states that this update is not for my system. Can anyone help me to try and fix this? thanks Paul |

| | Re: "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device" Hi Paul, Not sure why the KB is reporting your Windows version incorrectly as I looked over that KB and your System meets the requirements. You might try MS Support....... http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...9&gprid=455000 I did search several pages and found others with the same problem trying to install the hot-fix, but did not find any solutions, sorry. -- All the best, SG Is your computer system ready for Vista? https://winqual.microsoft.com/hcl/ Want to keep up with the latest news from MS? http://news.google.com/nwshp?tab=wn&ned=us&topic=t Just type in Microsoft "Boba Fett" <---> wrote in message news:%23ANE9QHtIHA.420@xxxxxx Quote: > Here's a techie one......... > Vista Ultimate 64-bit > > I get the following message: > "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your > device" > > I click the boxes to take me to the > "Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB940199)" > > which apparently can help fix this (corrupt or deleted Infcache.1) > > The thing is, I can download the fix but when applying WIndows states that > this update is not for my system. > > > Can anyone help me to try and fix this? > > thanks > Paul > > |

| | Re: "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device" Thanks SG, I did a bit of tinkering and found that UNinstalling SP1 and restarting helped. Two things happened: some of the hardware installed automatically, and second: anything else I forced an update on the driver and everytime it completed it's install. Then I reinstalled SP1 and carried on! So, no hair loss today......
