watching website videos

I have a problem viewing videos from certain websites, ones where you click
on something, and it gives you a choice of Windows Media Player and Real
Player (which I have). I've got Vista Home, I've downloaded the codecs, and
I get nothing except a blank screen. It seems there might be a permission
problem, but I don't know how to fix it. There's no error message either
