Converting Word 97-2003 document to Word 2007

I use Vista and want to know how to open a file that was originally in Word
97 – 2003 to open in Vista Word 2007 and how to convert that file to the Word
2007 format.
When I searched Microsoft on this issue, it said to click on Start and look
for the word convert. When I did that I could not find the work convert.

Jerry, click on the "Office" button -- the Start button for Word -- in the
upper left corner; "Convert" is the third option down.

You might try asking this in a group dedicated to Office problems:

Lesley -

Thanks for your return. The third option down on my list is Save. Convert
is nowhere on the list.

Thanks for the reply. If Lesley can't help me, I'll post on the other forum.

Hi Jerry,
You should be able to just open the file in Word 2007.
You will only see the convert button if you are viewing a document that was
created or saved as a previous version of Word.

Re: Converting Word 97-2003 document to Word 2007

Paul –
Thanks for your feedback. My mistake was looking for the word create for a
file that did not need to change. I feel a little foolish that I did not
figure it out.

However, you said my Word 97 – 2003 files should convert automatically when
I use Word 2007. And, they all seem to do that. However, this one file did
not. And when I went through the steps to convert it to Word 2007, the file
did convert, but some of the information was missing. This particular file
had different formats in it and I suspect the conversion was not able to
convert them all successfully.

Thanks,
Jerry

Glad you found out your "problem"! I was doing proofing for someone who was
using 2003, so wasn't converting, but could see where "Convert" was --
thought you needed to convert from 2003 to 2007. C'est la vie!
