I broke my registry, I think...

I installed a new registry cleaner, RegCure I think, ran it, cleaned like 12k errors, more than I thought I should have, turned off my computer and went to bed. I come back and its acting like windows 2000! None of the services are working, I can't access the backups I made, and I can't use the system restore because the... host program wont respond, or something... I ran safe mode and got SOME of the drivers working again, as I thought I would, so it sort of seems my computer has amnesia... Does anyone know how I can get more services to work without reformatting my computer? I wouldnt mind that if i could even get the disk drives to work... Help would be greatly appreciated.

Classic example of what may happen if one uses a
so-called registry cleaner. All you can do now is
reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows Vista.

You can now say you've got at least ONE clue - don't use a registry
cleaner.

Re: I broke my registry, I think...

I realize I screwed up, but since I already restored partial function to my computer I think there's something I can do. At the very least I need to gain access to my hardware management, which is all blank even though all the data still exists, to activate my CD drives so I can save some of my data. Someone out there must be able to help...

WOW! That's good to know. And that also answers any questions as to
why one can't slipstream SP1... it woudln't do any good for repairing.

Another reason why a good backup strategy should be in place.

Re: I broke my registry, I think...

Bah. Found some disks from my old computer I was sure I'd thrown away, with lots of my precious stuff on them... Formatting time!

Anyway, I'd read all about this registry stuff and how they kill computers, but before that I'd run them many times and never had any problems. From Registry Mechanic to TuneUp utilities, lots of others on various computers, they all helped a lot! Only this RegCure thing completely obliterated my registry and made me into a clueless noob. :P

As for the disk drives... I was running Daemon Tools and had my actual drive disabled to run it properly, but couldnt turn it back on when this happened because of my device manager being empty... Perfect storm, I think!

RegCure... I will get youuuuuu!!!

So your hardware management is all blank ? That is serious!
Well at least your data still exists, there's hope yet.
To activate your CD drives try linking them to your disk drives via the double data bridge.
I know it's a tricky move but you have nothing to lose now.
When you get the double data bridge configured type in "Format c:\"
That should do it.

It didn't give you the option to make a backup copy of the registry
before it started?
