| | Open File in Seperate Window In the windows XP you used to be able to go to windows explorer and file type and advanced to make a file type always open in a new window. I'm currently using Vista and Office 2007 and everytime I click on an Excel file in Microsoft Internet Explorer it opens in Explorer. How can I change this so it opens in Excel. This was fairly easy to do in XP, I just can't seem to figure out how to do it in Vista. Thanks! |

All of the .xl* extensions and a few more are used by Excel -- click the Ratings button. | | Re: Open File in Seperate Window Thanks Mark but this doesn't quit fix the problem. I already went to Panel/Default Programs/ "associat a filetype" and all my ..xl* extensions are used by excel. This does not change how a file is opened when you are in another application. The default when in Explorer is for the file to open in Explorer. In XP you are able to check/uncheck a box so the file never opens in the same window. Do you know how to do this in Vista? "Mark L. | | Re: Open File in Seperate Window Thanks again Mark. While this solution does look like it may work I don't feel comfortable enough to play with the Windows Registry. Any other thoughts? Did Microsoft make a mistake with Vista by accidentally disabling this feature? If so, hopefully they fix it in a patch. "Mark L.
