| | Windows Calendar Reminders 1) I was wondering if Windows Calendar has to be running for the reminder to work, or will Windows Mail be enough? 2) If the Calendar must be running, is there any way to send it to the notification area of the taskbar? 3) Are the reminders sent to Mail, or is there just an audible warning? Countless times have I not run Windows Calendar for days, and not rebooted my laptop for days - and I finally do reboot, I get about 50 reminders! Lucky I sync my calendar with my phone! A sidebar gadget that popped up notifications would be useful. Marc |

| | Re: Windows Calendar Reminders I have not been able to get windows calendar to work for reminders when not running. However, I have found a rather elegant workaround solution as follows: Download a program called 'PowerMenu.exe'. It is freeware. It adds the ability for most programs to minimize to the system tray by right clicking on the minimize button. 1. Download 'PowerMenu.exe'. No need to install, just put it in any folder as it's home base. 2. Put 'PowerMenu.exe' shortcut in startup using the command line option -hideself on 3. Put Windows Calendar in startup Both programs will launch on startup. Powermenu will not show anywhere except the active application list (it is running in the background). Windows Calendar will show full screen and display any reminders; then right click the minimize button in Calendar and a menu option generated from powermenu will allow you to minimize to the system tray. In this way, Calendar runs all of the time but is minimized to the system tray and you only ever see reminders. Not a perfect solution but a reasonable workaround for the problem of not running when not active. -- FreddySmith Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |
