Vista - Can't restore files from Vista Backup

Ok, I meanwhile calmed down a bit! Because I was really mad. I made my
regular backups and now I am in the situation where I need them and I can't
restore the files.

Here is the scenario:
I did weekly backups to an IOMEGA USB External hard drive. The OS is Windows
Vista Ultimate. This week my built in HD said goodbye to this world and went
to heaven! So I bought a new HD and re-installed Vista. Next thing is to
restore my data from the USB HD. I open "Backup status and Restore" select
"Restore Files", click on "Advanced restore". Under "What do you want to
restore" there is only the "Files from a backup made on a different computer"
active. So I click "Next".

On the next screen I select my IOMEGA Drive and click "Next". I then see a
table with all my backups and the date/time I did them. In the column "Backup
location" it says for all of them "Backup location is not available".

If I click "Next" I can select all the files and folders in the backups etc.
or choose "Restore everything inthis backup". It doesn't really make a
difference. Also the selection in the next screen doesn't make any
difference. I can select to restore to original location or I can give a
location and check the checkboxes for "Restore files to their original
subfolders" and "Create a subfolder for the drive letter". I always get the
same result which is an error screen saying:

"The restore did not complete successfully
Restore did not finish successfully. Error code:

The backupfile could not be found. Check your hardware configuration or
restore from a different backup. (0x100001A)"

I googled and searched the forums with no success. I am really devastated. I
am a huge Vista fan but this is just plain stupid. A backup solution which
doesn't work is worse than no backup solution at all.

I know I need the MediaID.bin and it is in the root folder of my IOMEGA USB
Drive. I also know that the backup files are just zip files, but honestly,
with hundreds of them and files split across multiple zip files I don't see
how I can restore my data easily!

If I can't find a way I will loose all my emails, addresses and contact
spictures and most of my work as a developper. Sorry I start to get mad
again. I need a beer.
