Vista - windows update keeps crashing

hello all,

I have a problem which started today. Windows tells me there are
updated available. And when i tried to view the available updates, it
says explorer crashed. Checking online did nothing.

Sometimes it crashes even before i get the chance to click on the link
to see which updates are available. When that happens, i cant get the
windows update window to open at all. I have to restart.
