What Anti Spyware?

Hi,
can someone please advise of a good free anti spyware program that runs well
with Vista Home Premium. I downloaded the bought version 8.0 and began
having problems with the computer lagging, and generally slow all over, not
thinking it was AVG, I checked every other possible issue that I thought may
be causing it. Eventually it lead to AVG, as things had been good prior to
installation. I completely removed AVG and everything returned to normal,
great! But then I done a further download of the program again, and once
again the problems began.
Is there a good alternative Anti Spyware program that is recommended ?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards

Denise

Re: What Anti Spyware?

Obviously Defender is not enough for you. Since you have decided it lacks
some feature, you would have to define exactly what feature you lack before
you could pick a replacement. Lots of others have various bells and
whistles. Pick some feature you want added and goggle for it. IMO, none of
them add anything to protection against spyware any better than Defender.
(Most of the others seem to me to be obsessed with cookies.)

Re: What Anti Spyware?

AVG 8 is not an anti spyware app, its an anti virus app.
Do you have any other AV app installed?
What memory does your sys have?

If you need an anti-virus that goes easy on your system resources, I
recommend NOD32. Avast! may also be worth a try, if you are looking for
freeware.

Take a look at these site for test results and recommendations:

Oh, and like you probably understood from my answer, AVG is not an
anti-spyware, it is an anti-virus. Grisoft no longer offers a free
anti-spyware, but remember you already have Windows Defender. It is
recommended to run periodical scans with a second program, like Spybot,
Superantispyware or Ad-aware (all free). NOD32 is an anti-malware solution,
which offers protection against both viruses and spyware.

You should take a look at AVG 8.0. It does now have an anti-spyware
function..

My apologies. 8.0 includes some spyware protection. It is the stand-alone
free anti-spyware that has been discontinued.

The free online Ewido scanner is still available though. AVG Anti-Spyware
was just a rebranded Ewido.

Hi Denise,

Spybot Search & Destroy is a great free anti Spyware and Malware program.
