| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Windows Explorer Always Opens In a New Window Good evening, everyone I have had this bug pop up on several Vista machines, and the only common denominator is that: A) There are more than 2 users on the machine, and B) IE8 was installed Here is the solution: 1. Close all explorer windows. 2. Right-Click Internet Explorer 8, and select "Run As Administrator" (You may be prompted for the Administrator password here) 3. IE8 will guide you through the setup procedure where you set your search preferences. Go through all the steps until you are finished. 4. Close IE8 Now open up Windows Explorer and see if opening a new folder works correctly. This seems to be a bug where IE8 will NOT save your setup parameters because it is running as a regular user instead of an Admin. Running it as an Administrator allows IE8 for complete the setup properly and save the correct registry values. Hope this helps! |
