Simply find a file with the extension that you wish to add, right-click it, select 'Open' and follow the prompts to associate the file with an application or command. To change a file extension association go to Control Panel->Programs- Quote: >Default Programs |

| | Re: How to add a new file extension in vista Create a file using Notepad, and save it with the extension you want to add. Double-click the file and in the Open With dialog, choose the application from the list. Place a checkmark near "Always open...." and click OK. This adds the new file type for the *current* user account. -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] The Winhelponline Blog: http://www.winhelponline.com/blog Windows® Troubleshooting: http://www.winhelponline.com "Carl F" <carlf@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OLzOFu$xIHA.5472@xxxxxx XP has the ability to add a new file extension in control panel/file options/file types/new(button).
