Vista SP1 Fails To Install

Hi all,

SP1 went through the full install routine, but when it reaches the end
of Stage 3, I get a message saying that SP1 failed to install and it
then goes through a lengthy process to revert to the computer's
previous state. There is no detailed error message telling me why it
failed to install.

I've tried both the automatic and manual download versions of SP1.
I've also tried it with all of my virus and internet security turned
off. I still get the same message.

Anyone any ideas as to how I can get SP1 to install. I have Vista
Ultimate on a Dell dimension, Intel Core2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz, 2660
MHz and 4 Gig of memory.

Thanks for any help.
Bye for now,

Re: Vista SP1 Fails To Install

I went for the free support from Microsoft. They had me tape my original
Vista Ultimate disc, do an install right over top of the current version,
then run SP1 on. Worked like a charm, but I don't know why. They must be
having a lot of issues with this to ovffer FREE support.

Cudos to them though as the support rep stayed with me until it was
completed and working fine.

Re: Vista SP1 Fails To Install

The in place upgrade clears up corrupted databases and other stores that are
often a reason preventing the upgrade.
