Using Clipart for Business

I'm using MS Word to make webpage templates and I love all the clipart and
texture choices in those programs. But will be breaking any laws if I use
their clipart/texture when the templates I am making will be sold?

RE: Using Clipart for Business

Once upon a time I was producing a print newsletter for a community theatre
(name and address withheld!). There was a huge publicity campaign in the
Government going on about breach of copyright. So I called the lady at the UK
Government Department and told her I was stealing photos, quotes, bits of
articles and anything I could find to send an amusing but enticing newsletter
that we sent by snail-mail to the patrons of our theatre club.

She took a deep breath and replied, asking lotys of questions, the main one
being whether we were charging for the newsletter (answer: no). Were we
profiting by sending the newsletter (answer: not in money, only publicity for
the club). Did we send stuff out without changes. (answer: rarely. We had to
edit material down and make changes). She took the ultimate deep breath and
said: "Look, I know we've publicised breaches of copyright, but, and don't
quote me on this [... um ...] but I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
You're not the sort of people we are going after."

I thought you'd like to know.

Hi,

I would normally go to the source and look/ask for related information, and
in this case, the following is what MS says about the use of clipart:

Source: http://www.microsoft.com/about/legal...s/default.mspx

Clip Art
The Microsoft Clip Art Gallery provides a compilation of artwork for your
personal use. Microsoft licenses some of the artwork from third parties and
therefore cannot grant permission for you to redistribute the artwork. For
more information on the terms of use, refer to the End User License
Agreement (EULA) that accompanied the product from which you obtained the
clip art. If you obtained the artwork from Office Online, you can find the
EULA at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX100667421033.aspx.

Many other product EULAs are available at
http://www.microsoft.com/legal/useterms/.

The following guidelines apply to the use of clip art:

1.
You may use clip art in your school assignments and projects.

2.
You may use clip art in your church brochure.

3.
You may use clip art for personal, noncommercial uses.

4.
You may not use clip art to advertise your business.

5.
You may not use clip art to create a company logo.

6.
You may not use clip art to illustrate the chapters of a book.
