| | Couldn't find a wireless network I recently change mi OS to Vista Business in a Dell Inspiron 9400. Everything was running smoothly except for the wireless networking. In the first place I could connect to the wireless network at the office without any problem, then, since I have a wired network I turned off the wireless radio with Windows Mobility Center. The problem arised when I wasn't able to connect to the wireless network at home, and then with no wireless networks at all. I spend a lot of (frustrating) time searching for a solution and find that the online and offline help from Vista is, almost useless. Then I went into the community forums and following a post about resetting the wireless devices I found the problem. It is so stupid that should not have happened in the first place.... Let me describe it to you... The radio was turned off and then with Windows Update I installed all the available updates, which included an updated driver for the IntelPROWireless device. When the driver was installed the set up was done with mistaken attributes and those prevented the adapter from finding any network (it was set to search for 802.11a networks). So the solution was simple. Go to Computer -> (right-click) Properties -> Device Manager then find the wireless network adapter right-click -> Properties select the Advanced tab and find the Wireless Mode, for me it worked fine setting it in 6. 802.11a/b/g Hope this helps. Cheers VĂ*ctor |

If a driver update for a device is coming from MS in a Windows Update, it should be avoided. All it takes is to get burnt one or two times on driver updates from MS to know to avoid them. |
