| | Can I access the Volume Shadow Copy of a file directly so I can include is part of small nightly backup job from another pc? Dear Group, Can I access the Volume Shadow Copy of Quickbooks data file directly so I can include the file as part of the small nightly backup job based on another pc? I want to tell Acronis TrueImage the filename and location of the available Quickbooks datafile on the Vista PC so that I can make a backup schedule for this file in Acronis TI. I can't currently grab that file unless all the users exit the application and we set it to run in single-user mode. If I try to access the Quicken data file the pc says "this file is currently locked or in use by another program" type of message. Hence the need for me to able to access the older versions of the file. Details: small business with 5-6 pc's. PC1 - Vista Business with the Quckbooks account package. PC2 - XP Home with the calendar booking system and Acronis True Image Home. As of today PC2 XP Home has Acronis True Image making daily/weekly/monthly backups of the PC2 based Calendar Booking system. This is working well. We are trying to make a backup of the Quickbooks accounts package data file on PC1-Vista Business, but Acronis cannot grab this due to "this file is currently locked by another program" type of message. I've even tried to copy it manually on the PC1 Vista Business pc and it gives the same error message. Can I use Volume Shadow Copy facility to access yesterday's version of this file, and can I get this to run automatically using batch file/task scheduler or Acronis TrueImage? Vista Business Backup - I have set this to run each night and it does make a backup, but it renames the backup with the date-time so that this changes every time. Otherwise I might have used this backup file even though it's large than I want. The new name is a pain as it means I don't know how to write a basic batch file, can someone tell me how to read the file name that is most recent, and then use that filename for the batch copy/xcopy/robocopy command? Is there a simple shortcut for learning the basics of Visual Basic so I can be more productive with writing simple code to do this? I'm sure VB could read the most recent file name, populate a string and then use that string for the copy command. Summary: I want to tell Acronis TrueImage the filename and location of the available Quickbooks datafile on the Vista PC so that I can make a backup schedule for this file in Acronis TI. Thanks. derek. |
