Vista Tutorial - Vista laptop screen brightness problem

ok so the other day i closed my computer so it would hibernate after like 3 hours i opened it and i was expecting it to start back up it did but the screen was very dark and i could not see anything until i put a light up against it and i could barley see the thing u click to go to ur desktop so i clicked it and i got to my desktop and i could still barley see the icons and stuff i tried turning it off and on and that did not work so if you could help me i would appriciate it thanks

How old is your laptop? It sounds like the backlight has blown. This can be repaired at a shop and will cost between 40-50 quid.

Things to try first,

1. Plug your laptop into the mains. Laptop displays are brighter when plugged in.

2. Press FN and the button that turns up the brightness. It may be the 8 or 9 key.

If your laptop is under a year old return it to the shop where bought.

my laptop is probably a year old or so and whats 40-50 quid is that dollars? and i have tried that it didnt work so what should i do

quid is english slang for Pound stirling. I can not convert it into dollars because it may cost a different amount in America.
