XP has Active Desktop which allows users to have animated images and web
pages on their Desktops. Active Desktop is a large security vulnerability
and so Vista doesn't have this. So you have to pass on having a dancing pig
or the like on your Desktop. You might look for a Sidebar Gadget that will
amuse you instead.

Re: Animated Gifs

If you are referring to Active Desktop, it's not available in vista.

You can't do what you want to do. Time to move on.

There is no way to activate something that doesn't exist. It was a security
risk because it allowed active content to run - active like a virus.

You were told why the Active Desktop was harmful, viruses and other malware!
It's amazing what is important in an operating system to some folks. But if
you want to regress to XP Pro with Service Pack 3, go for it!
