| | Restore to new hard drive with fresh Vista intall I had to install a new hard drive after the old one failed. I installed a fresh/clean version of the OEM Windows Vista OS and then tried to restore files from the secondary hard drive that had the Windows back-ups that I had been doing weekly. When I use the back-up and restore feature I get messages that say: 1. "there are no backups avail on this computer 2 When I do an "advanced restore" and choose "files from a backup made on a different computer" I can find the hard disk and the date/time info, but the "backup location is not available" 3. When select a backup date and click next, the only way I can proceed is if I click "restore everything in this backup", BUT 4. When I click in the "original location" I get a box that says, "the files you are restoring have security permissions for a user acccount which could not be found on this computer. The missiing user account is shown below..." 5. The user account is exactly the same on the new version so there is ultimately no way for me to restore the files. PLEASE Help! |

| | Re: Restore to new hard drive with fresh Vista intall You may need to take ownership of the files. Because you reformatted/reinstalled, the security settings have changed from the original installation. | | Re: Restore to new hard drive with fresh Vista intall Thanks, I already did it the hard way by dumping it into a new subdirectory and laboriously cutting and pasting. Hopefully I didn't mess up too many files. "It's Only Me" wrote: Quote: > You may need to take ownership of the files.
