Networking problem

Vista x64 w SP1

When downloading large files and when the screensaver comes on I lose connection to my internet. I have to reset the modem to start back up. The router seems fine but for some reason when the computer goes into it's energy saver mode the downloading ceases. I dont' remember any problems of this sort prior to SP1. Any ideas.

Do you have the system set to allow the network adapter (NIC) to be turned
off to save power? This is in properties for the NIC in device manager -
if it's set this way, turn it OFF, and restart the system. Check in the
system BIOS for similar settings. Basically, be sure that the NIC is
always awake.
