Anyone get Virtual Server 2005 R2 Beta installed on Vista RC1?

Hosting on Vista (not guest). However it fails to detect IIS, so I cannot
install it.

Anyone got a solution?

Or even VMWare Server 1.01, which also does not install..

Really, if MS can't sort out these incompatabilities, Vista is gonna bomb
(the only read I need a VM solution, if for a different program that
failes to work under Vista, which Compatability mode does not fix).

RE: Anyone get Virtual Server 2005 R2 Beta installed on Vista RC1?

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your tirade. The answer to your pre-tirade question is yes, I
have been successfully using Virtual Server 2005 R2 in Windows Vista since
about build 5231. It works fine, but there is a hitch: Certain IIS
components are not installed in Vista by default, and you do have to go into
Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on
or off to install the bits, such as the IIS Admin service. Once you do that
Virtual Server should install just fine. However to access the page you will
have to run Internet Explorer as Administrator.

As for 'Really, if MS can't sort out these incompatabilities, Vista is gonna
bomb' well if you are a beta tester then that is partially your
responsibility. Instead of complaining about it here, report it as a bug. I
honestly feel that RC1 is extremely solid, stable, and runs better in general
than any version of Windows RTM has - ever, and they still have four months
to launch. I hope that they can get the bits working to please you so that
it does not bomb, but if you are so unhappy with it then I strongly suggest
you uninstall and revert back to Windows XP SP2.

Good luck!

You have to install everything even remotely related to IIS from the Add
Windows Components. To access the admin website after installation you must
run a separate instance of IE with "Run As Administrator." I have it
running on RC1 x64.
