Vista Sync Center

For several years I have relied heavily on my HP Journada Handheld computer
to keep notes, tasks, contacts, etc in sync with Outlook on my XP desktop
using Activesync.

I recently upgraded my XP system to Vista Ultimate and realize that
Activesync won't work with Vista. To date, I have been unable to get the
handheld to sync with Vista's Sync Center. When I connect the handheld to
the Vista system it seems to recognize the devise and installs the driver
software automatically (HP USB Sync 1611) but will not allow me to set up a
partnership. There seems to be no option t connect to my handheld device,
only offline files and flash drives.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Michael

Re: Vista Sync Center

Unless the Windows Mobile device runs Windows Mobile 2003 or newer, it won't
work with the Sync Center. ActiveSync won't work on Vista at all, it's been
replaced with the Windows Mobile Device Center -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...ce-center.mspx.

Even with this software you still need Windows Mobile 2003 or better.

Re: Vista Sync Center

Thanks Richard,,

That's most likely the problem although I don't have the handheld before me
right now. It still uses Activesync and I saw nothing in the handheld
besides Activesync (no other type of sync program). I suspected as much but
it seemed strange that it recognized the device and installed the driver
software for it and that through me off.

I did note that every time I connected the handheld to the desktop it would
indicate that a connection was made and on three occasions the Windows
Mobile Device Center (version 6.1) on the desktop would say it was
connecting and finally said it had established a connection. At other times
it would just continually say connecting.

When it indicated that a connection had been established it would allow me
to view and transfer files back and forth between the desktop and the
handheld but would never allow me to set it up to sync Outlook.

I tried it on a second computer also running Vista and Windows Mobile Device
Center 6.1 and it also detected the handheld device and installed the driver
software and the the handheld indicated that a connection had been
established although the Windows Mobile Device Center on the desktop always
indicated no device detected.

On the first pc, activesync was never installed whereas on the second Vista
was an upgrade and still has Activesync installed and won't uninstall. Oh
well, I'm sure you're right because I'm thinking now that my handheld is
running version 2002 and doesn't say it's Windows Mobile.

Sure wish they had allowed for backward compatibility As I said, it worked
beautifully and was synced daily, sometimes several times, when I was still
using XP.

Thanks for your input. It is greatly appreciated.

Michael
