After Vista upgrade, Bluetooth stopped working

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with built-in Bluetooth.
My Bluetooth always worked fine, untill I did a Vista upgrade.
After fixing the usual problems that people expirience after the
upgrade (sound stops working, issues with automatic downloads, etc.) I
now realize that I can not get my Bluetooth to work.

It is still built-in to my computer.
Yet, I don't have the icon in my system tray to activate, nor does it
show up in Control panel.
When I right-click a file to "send to", there is an option "Bluetooth
File Transfer Wizard" instead of the regular Bluetooth icon.
When I click "Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard", I get a message
"fsquirt.exe can not be found".

How can I get my Bluetooth working again?

Use System Restore to recover a point before you did the upgrade.

Colin,

Hi!

No way.

There is a reason I did the upgrade. I was having other problems which
the upgrade fixed.

Any other ideas?

Re: After Vista upgrade, Bluetooth stopped working

Bluetooth is a device, like everyother component in your computer. Did you
load valid Vista drivers for your Bluetooth device?

Sinner,

Honestly, I don't know.
It used to work perfectly and after the upgrade it doesn't.
If it's a driver issue, how can I download the right one?

You'll have to go through the manufacturer's site and see if they have any
Vista drivers for your machine. If the computer isn't too old, you might
get lucky.

Re: After Vista upgrade, Bluetooth stopped working

Try uninstalling the bluetooth network device in Device Manager. Then reboot
and see if Vista discovers new hardware and let Vista find the driver it
likes.

Re: After Vista upgrade, Bluetooth stopped working

Sinner you're a Saint!!!!

I went to Dell's website. I downloaded whatever drivers sounded like
they had something to do with Bluetooth, and now it works!!!!!!

Thank you so much!

There is only one small difference, though not a big deal.
Before I upgraded I would activate Bluetooth by first turning on
wireless (Fn+F2), and then the Bluetooth icon would appear in the system
tray in a dull color.
I would then right-click the icon, and click turn-on Bluetooth, which
would activate Bluetooth and make the icon a bright blue and white.
I could then deactivate Bluetooth (without turning off wireless) by
right-clicking the icon, clicking turn-off, and it would deactivate,
even though my wireless was still on.
Now after the upgrade, the Bluetooth is completely in sync with my
wireless. If I turn on wireless, Bluetooth goes on. And there is no
option to right-click the icon to turn it off. The only way to turn it
off is by completely turning off my wireless.
This is not a big issue at all. I'm happy it's working. Though I wish
it would work exactly as before.

My Gateway C-142XL uses Fn+F6 to toggle Bluetooth. It's my experience that
there aren't many different makers of certain peripherals. All touchpads,
for example, use Synaptic's drivers. Perhaps all Bluetooth transceivers
follow similar lines.
