So I am told there is no upgrade path to Vista. Is that true from what you
know?
Second: I have one meg of RAM. Is that enough to run Vista Aero?
Tks.

No. I upgraded from XP to Vista Beta, then RC1.

One meg? Or one gig?
One meg? No way. One gig? It will run. It will be slow, but it will
technically run.

YET. There is an upgrade option, but it's shadowed out.

I assume you mean one GIG. If so, plenty.
No guarantee though that all your peripherals will work, though. You might
want to run the latest Upgrade Advisor to check on those.
Note that a number of video cards out there will work with Vista, but that
doesn't necessarily mean they'll provide access to the new Aero interface.
Vista runs fine without that -- you just don't get the fancy special EFX.

Windows Version 3.11 needs 4 Megs.
8 MB strongly recommended for 386 enhanced mode.
Remember the Memory DOS takes from your total amount of Ram.

I'm currently running Vista with aero on one gig of (dual channel) RAM,
and it runs smooth as a babies bum....)
In fact, is even a bit faster then XP on the same machine.

Which version of DOS do you mean? :-)
My bad. I did mean Gig.

Great. My machine only has 1GIG of RAM. You say "plenty" which is good news,
but on what do you base your statement?
Tks.

TWO things. First:
(from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...y/capable.mspx)
A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:
A modern processor (at least 800MHz1).
512 MB of system memory.
A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.
Second:
I have a gig -- it works fine, runs smooth and quick -- **MUCH** more
quickly than Beta2.
Or, to quote an in-joke from a previous job:
"Works good -- lasts a long time."

Nothing is more true than experience. ONE meg it is then. Tks.
