| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Vista Home Premium 32bit 4 gig Ram problem Hi all Recently I had a problem with my RAID and had to wipe every thing now I have everything installed, but I have 4 sticks of Ram (4x1 sticks) but my computer details display that I only have 2gig. I heard there is a check box I need to tick to use maximum memory but to be honest I haven't a clue where to start looking as I lack knowledge in this kind of thing. Any help is welcome. Thanks Vost |

Some of that space must be used to access video RAM, BIOS, etc. What's left over is used for system RAM, which means you will not be able to use a full 4GB of RAM on a 32-bit machine (see http://members.cox.net/slatteryt/RAM.html). The usual result is 3.1 GB or so being used. 2GB sounds quite low, but you should figure out how much RAM is on your video card, some of the new ones have a TON of memory onboard. Vista SP1 always reports the amount of RAM installed, not the amount used. So it will tell you about your 4GB, and never let on that it can't use all of it. -- Tim Slattery MS MVP(Shell/User) Slattery_T@xxxxxx http://members.cox.net/slatteryt |

The arithmetic is 4GB minus some that is used for accessing the VGA and a few other pieces of I/O gear. -- Cheers, Bob |
